Our Manifesto Leading the Change
Leading the Change COPANI 2026 Theme
The Nikkei community carries in its DNA the ability to bridge worlds. In times of division, our heritage enables us to become the essential link for mutual understanding. The XXII COPANI redefines the role of the Nikkei citizen: we are not only productive members of society, but leaders of positive change.
This theme calls upon each participant to transform the legacy we have inherited into concrete action, leading by example to face global challenges with empathy, innovation, and dialogue.
Logo Rationale: XXII COPANI
The logo of the XXII COPANI features the universal gesture of the High Five, Toca Aqui, Chócala, ハイタッチ, to convey three fundamental pillars:
Motivation: A globally recognized symbol associated with sportsmanship and achievement, representing the energy required to lead transformation.
Equality: Its modern and inclusive design neutralizes distinctions of color, gender, and belief, focusing instead on the essence of unity among Nikkei communities across the Americas.
Commitment: The meeting of hands symbolizes the seal of an agreement, a shared pact to build positive change together.
Manifesto
In a world marked by wars, conflicts, political polarization, and social divisions, the role of the Nikkei community has become more crucial than ever. The rationale behind the themes — Building Positive Change, Being Positive Change, and Leading Positive Change — lies in the unique position the Nikkei occupy on the global stage.
A Bridge Between Two Cultures
By nature, the Nikkei are a cultural bridge. Carrying the legacy of Japan and its values, while being deeply rooted in their countries of birth, Nikkei individuals possess a rare perspective. This dual heritage enables a deeper understanding of differences and a greater capacity to mediate, reconcile, and connect.
The Evolution of the Motto “Better Citizens”
The traditional and honorable motto of “being the best citizens of our countries” has long been a pillar of Nikkei identity. However, in today’s world, being a “better citizen” goes beyond obeying laws and contributing productively to society. In times of global crisis, the best citizen is one who becomes an active agent of positive change.
This evolution calls on us to go beyond mere peaceful coexistence. It challenges us to:
- Build bridges between cultures and communities, rather than allowing conflicts to divide them.
- Be examples of tolerance and empathy, demonstrating that it is possible to honor one’s origins while fully embracing national identity.
- Lead by example, using our heritage to inspire dialogue, cooperation, and innovation in addressing global challenges.
Therefore, by embracing these themes, COPANI calls upon the Nikkei community to assume its historical role as a cultural mediator, transforming the ideal of “being the best citizen” into the mission of leading positive change in our countries and in the world.
The convention thus becomes a stage for channeling this unique heritage toward building a more peaceful, just, and harmonious future.
